An inverter is an electronic device that converts or changes the flow of electric charge from DC (Direct Current) to AC (Alternating Current). These devices are used in various applications like UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), solar inverter, portable consumer device, etc.
This project is a 100-Watts inverter; it is applicable with limited loads like house lightings and other devices with the same ratings. The HEF4047BP monostable/astable multivibrator is used as astable multivibrator to generate a frequency 180 degrees out of phase. The variable resistor at pin RCT is used to adjust the frequency of the signal. Two TIP122 transistors are used to pre-amplify the signal from the HEF4047BP. Then four 2N3055 transistors are used to drive the output signal to the transformer. The 9-0-9V step-down transformer is placed in reverse so that it will work as step-up transformer and produces a 230V AC.
A 12V power supply from any kind of battery can be used, but car battery is preferred for longer life span. This inverter's maximum output power depends on the current rating of driver transistors and the current rating of transformer's primary winding.
