This module antenna design combines the functionalities of the WiLink 8 module with a dual band wifi antenna on a single board. It uses the TE connectivity's high performance dual band antenna that operates at frequency range of 2.4-2.4835 GHz and 4.9-5.875 GHz, well suited for diverse wireless applications. This design optimized both embedded Wifi and Bluetooth with low energy functionalities.
The two (2) types of frequencies that a dual-band routers support are 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. This particular feature of the router allows you to choose the best connection possible for your devices. This ensures stability with your local network and Internet connection. A 5 GHz network has a lower chance of picking up interference because most wireless devices such as Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, microwave ovens, and computers use the 2.4 GHz frequency. However, 5GHz band has shorter range compared to 2.4GHz since in radio frequencies, the higher the frequency, the shorter the range. The 2.4 GHz will be used to access the Internet for simple browsing and email while 5 GHz has a wider wireless spectrum which leads to significantly better performance that is used for media streaming and transferring music, pictures, and video throughout your home network. The device also uses Bluetooth technology, with new features and improved radio performance. The receiver uses near-zero-IF architecture to convert the RF signal to baseband data. Received signal from the external antenna is input to an internal RF switch and a differential LNA (low-noise amplifier). This signal is then passed to a mixer which down-converts the signal to an IF, followed by a filter and amplifier. The signal is then quantized by a sigma-delta ADC. The quantized signal is further processed to reduce the interference level. The transmitter is based on an all-digital sigma-delta PLL with a digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) as the RF frequency clock. The modulation is achieved by directly modulating the digital PLL where power amplifier is also digitally controlled.
