Summary

This simple circuit detects combustible gas leaks that could possibly produce explosion. It is commonly used on LPG gas that alerts the user through audio-visual indications. Its gas sensing capability of detection depends on the gas sensor being used.


The circuit is comprised of 74AHCT123AD device which is a Dual retriggerable monostable multivibrator with reset. It is used to generate pulses and manages the output of MQ-6. The MQ-6 is a gas sensor that could detect LPG, i-butane, propane, methane, alcohol, hydrogen or even smoke depends on the calibration. It is used with zener diode that converts the 9V DC supply into a 5V DC source. The output goes high when the gas level reaches 1000 ppm (parts per million) and the speaker will produce sound which indicates danger.


The design is suitable for household application where LPG tanks are commonly used. It is also suitable for commercial and industrial applications that combustible gases are used for their operation.
