This circuit is for displaying 3D animations and lighting patterns with much increased complexity compared to any 2D display of comparable resolution. Environmental interaction and Android Bluetooth connection will be able to control various lighting effects on the cube. It is for a visually pleasing cube and for more practical applications such as displaying 3D models.
It is comprised of 64 RGB LEDs with a single serial connection. The cube includes three modes of operation such as off, programmed animation, and environmental response. There are several animations that can be cycled during the operation of the cube. The P89V51RD2FN is an 80C51 microcontroller with 64kB Flash and 1024 bytes of data RAM that controls the entire system. The IR rangefinder or GP2Y0A21YK and ambient light sensor with Light-to-Frequency Converter or TSL235R will be used so the LED cube will react to environmental changes by changing color and brightness of each LED in the cube. The GTL2002D device is a Level Converter that secures the voltage level between the connection of Microcontroller and Serial Bluetooth Transceiver. The 74HC595D device is used as remote holding register and in serial-to-parallel data conversion. The mode of operation of the cube as well as guided animations will be controlled wirelessly through Bluetooth using an Android application.
This project is suitable for the promotion of 3D display. It can also be used for more sophisticated traffic control and warning system.
