Summary

This circuit is design to support a supply for delivering a higher DC power rating. It has a 96% typical efficiency that allows the regulator to start up without high inrush current or output voltage overshoot. It provides an easy-to-use power supply solution for applications powered by either one-cell, two-cell, or three-cell alkaline, NiCd, NiMH, one-cell Li-Ion or Li-Polymer batteries.


The circuit is comprised of MCP1640T-I/CHYRB2 device that is a compact, high-efficiency, fixed frequency, synchronous step-up DC-DC converter. It also operates and consumes only 19uA while operating at no load, and provides a true disconnect from input to output while shut down. The FDN337N device is a N-channel logic level enhancement mode field effect transistor that used to minimize on-state resistance of the switch. The PMEG4005AEA device is a very low VF MEGA schottky barrier rectifier that is used for the rectification of voltage and efficient DC/DC conversion.


The design is suitable to applications that require a higher rated supply from low rated source. It is a helpful concept that can be an option to power-up several devices using typical low rated battery.
