This design is a stable data storage or commonly known a nonvolatile data storage that allows retrieval of information even in the absence of power source. Its circuit incorporates the technology of Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) that acts as the non-volatile memory. It features high reliability on data retention time of ten years and 100,000 write cycle endurance.
The circuit is connected to the PC parallel port and is controlled by a driver software running on the PC. The circuit uses the 74ABT04 HEX Inverter which is ideal for this set up because of the IOFF circuitry which disables the output, preventing the potentially damaging backflow current through the device when it is powered down. The circuit also incorporates the PCA24S08AD 1024 x 8-bit CMOS EEPROM and the M9346 EEPROM. The PCA24S08AD provides 8192 bits of serial Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) organized as 1024 words of 8 bits each. The M9346 is a microwire serial access EEPROM with block protection. The BC557 transistor provides enough current for the RL5-R3545 LED to indicate that the circuit is energized. The 5V DC voltage source energizes the circuit especially the EEPROMs and the transistor.
This circuit can be used in secondary storage or long-term steady storage. Some examples of non-volatile memory are the read-only memory, flash memory, ferroelectric RAM, hard disk, floppy disk, magnetic tape, and optical disc.
