Summary
The LTC3110 is a 2A bidirectional buck-boost DC/DC regulator with capacitor charger and balancer. It has a its own low noise switching algorithm, the buck-boost regulator that optimizes efficiency with capacitor/battery voltages that are above, below or equal to the system output voltage. The LTC3110 features an automatic switchover from charge to backup mode, an automatic backup capacitor balancing, and a +/- 2% accurate charge input current limit from 125mA to 2A.
The automatic switchover from charge to backup mode is based on an external command. It has a pin selectable operation mode, setting VDIR to High will result to charging operation and a low VDIR will set the operation to system backup. In charging a stack of supercapacitor an integrated voltage balancing buffer at pin VMID prevents capacitor overvoltage condition caused from mismatch. With the DIR pin, it can react quickly on a power failure condition by providing the backup voltage to the system.
It has a 0.1V to 5.5V for capacitor and battery supply and 1.8V to 5.25V backup making it suited for applications like supercapacitor backup converter and charger, battery backup converter and charger, servers, and RF systems with battery/Capacitor backup.
