Audio is a sound within the acoustic range accessible to people. An Audio Frequency (AF) is an electrical alternating current within the 20 to 20kHz (cycles per second) range that can be utilized to produce acoustic sound. In Personal Computers (PCs), audio is the sound framework that accompanies or can be added to a PC. A sound card contains a special built-in processor and memory for transforming audio files and sending them to speakers in the PC. An audio file is a record of captured sound that can be played back. Sound is a sequence of naturally analog signals that are converted to digital signals by the sound card, using a microchip called an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC).
The MCP6441 device is a single nanopower operational amplifier (op-amp), which has low quiescent current (450nA, typical) and rail-to-rail input and output operation. This op-amp is unity gain stable and has a gain bandwidth product of 9kHz (typical). These devices operate with a single supply voltage as low as 1.4V. These features make the family of op-amps well suited for single-supply, battery-powered applications. The MCP6441 op-amp is designed with Microchip's advanced CMOS process and offered in the 5-pin SC70 and SOT-23 single packages. All devices are available in the extended temperature range, with a power supply range of 1.4V to 6.0V.
This audio limiter circuit is easy to build. When the audio input level is between 20mV and 20V, the output will be a constant 25mV signal. Audio limiters can be used in a transmitter schematic or in any circuit that needs a constant audio level.
