This circuit features current limiting configuration that protects power supply of electronic equipment. In some case, it reduce damage to circuit components during short circuit fault.

The design is comprised of two NPN transistors Q1 and Q2, in which Q1 act as simple amplifier and switch of signal while Q2 redirects some of the current flowing at the base of Q1. With that redirects, the current flowing through collector of Q1 reduces while the voltage is maintained.

This current limiting circuit is an important design that solves the vulnerability of electronic equipment to different type of current surges and faults.
