The involvement of instrumentation to some industries provides a greater impact on how the industry manage and develop its own system. Nowadays, the innovation on instrumentation is evident in which specification and reliability are very important parameters when choosing an instrument. This ultrasonic meter features a highly precise measurements with large flow rate range, which is important in instrumentation. As for its reliability, the device could last 20 years of battery life with compact construction. It also low cost compared to other instrumentation equipment that has the same functionality of this flow meter.

The design is built with MAX35101EHJ+ Time-to-Digital Converter with Analog Front-End in which it integrates the functions required for automatic time-of-flight (TOF) measurements, including the ultrasound pulse launching and detecting, TOF calculation, temperature measurement, and a real-time clock (RTC). The flow meter by Maxim Integrated sends and receives ultrasound waves between piezoelectric transducers in both the upstream and downstream directions in the pipe. By measuring the TOF difference between the upstream and downstream wave travels, utilizing sophisticated digital signal processing techniques, a very accurate flow rate can be calculated.It can also work in various configurable automatic event timing modes, requiring very minimal interactivity from a host microcontroller, thus reducing the total power consumption of the system. The MAX4721EUA+ analog switch manages the signal switching that correspond to the communication of the components with an LCD. The EFM32ZG110 is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ microcontrollers serves as the host controller of the system. The EA DOG M163L-A Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) provide the meter reading display.

The Industrial distribution system uses a lot of flow meters that it is calibrated with respect to the fluid or gas to be measured. Since it make use of ultrasound waves, the system is highly accurate and reliable for different type of system. With this compact instrumentation device, the industries and some basic consumer applications related to flow, cooling, and heat metering is now possible.
